A man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being shot at an outdoor shopping complex in North York Sunday afternoon.

It happened at the Shops at Don Mills in the Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East area shortly before 3 p.m.

The man was taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries after sustaining a single gunshot wound, Toronto Paramedic Services said.

Police said a suspect vehicle – a dark coloured sedan – was seen fleeing the area.

Officers cordoned off the parking lot of the shopping centre for several hours as police investigated the shooting, leaving some patrons stranded without access to their vehicles. However the lot reopened at around 6:30 p.m.

In a message posted to social media, the shopping centre said it was working with police.

“The safety of our guests and tenants is very important. We are cooperating with the police investigation,” the Shops at Don Mills said on Twitter.

Police did not say what may have motivated the shooting.
