A 36-year-old man has been charged after he crashed into an unmarked cruiser while trying to escape a drug-related arrest, police say.

On Thursday night, Durham Regional Police were investigating a man suspected of dealing drugs at a truck stop in Bowmanville. The officers attempted to block off the suspect's vehicle in the parking lot of the 5th Wheel Truck Stop on South Service Road at approximately 9 p.m., when the suspect reversed his car, pushing a police vehicle out of the way.

The suspect narrowly missed hitting two police officers as he drove away, police said in a statement on Friday.

The vehicle swerved erratically before getting stuck on a patch of grass on the gas station property. The suspect was arrested without further incident.

Following the crash, a search warrant was obtained for an address on Dundas Street East in Whitby. Police have not said whether the property searched was the suspect's home.

While searching the Whitby property, two additional suspects were arrested and police seized cash, drug paraphernalia, replica handguns and a quantity of drugs including marijuana and cocaine.

Kyoka Williams, 36, has been charged with dangerous driving and trafficking a controlled substance.

Two other men, aged 20 and 21, are facing several charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
