The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning Tuesday afternoon as rainfall was expected to continue into the evening.

Between 30-80 mm of rain has already fallen in the Greater Toronto Area and another 20-30 mm is expected, the conservation authority said.

“The Bayview Extension by the Brick Works and low-lying areas adjacent to the lower section of the Don Valley Parkway are or will be flooded,” said a release issued Tuesday.

Citizens are being urged to be cautious around bodies of water and to supervise children.

Drivers are also urged to use caution when driving through low-lying areas.

In addition, Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for Toronto as of 3:20 p.m.

In York region, sections of Highway 7 and Warden Avenue were temporarily closed due to flooding.

The flooding closures included Highway 7 at Highway 404, in Richmond Hill and Warden Avenue, north of 16th Avenue, in Markham.

The Warden Avenue closure was expected to continue into Wednesday.

The wet weather, however, is expected to clear out by Tuesday night with a mixture of sun and cloudy periods predicted for Wednesday.
