A Toronto firefighter is recovering after he fell through a hole in the floor while fighting a two-alarm blaze inside a west-end building Wednesday morning.

Fire crews rushed to College Street between Ossington and Concord Avenues at about 6:30 a.m., where flames could be seen inside a building and adjacent garage.

The fire was on the roof of a two-storey century-old building that was undergoing renovations.

The firefighter fell through a hole in the floor that had been cut out by contractors.

Toronto police Const. Wendy Drummond said the firefighter only suffered minor injuries and was conscious and breathing after the fall. He was taken to Toronto Western Hospital for treatment.

The flames were knocked down shortly after 7 a.m. but crews continued to battle hot spots and flare ups through much of the morning.
