A handful of passengers trapped on board a streetcar electrified by a fallen hydro wire escaped without incident Thursday during the morning rush.

TTC officials said the vehicle and streetcar track became electrified after a live wire fell on Spadina Avenue at Adelaide Street shortly before 8 a.m.

Four people including the driver were trapped inside the vehicle for about an hour before crews managed to shut the power off. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Witnesses told CTV News that the incident began when they heard a loud bang before seeing a shower of sparks.

"All of a sudden I saw a bunch of fire," said Krishna Deoi, who was on board the streetcar at the time of the accident. "Obviously you are not ready for this type of stuff."

Deoi added that the streetcar driver handled the situation very well, and even bought her a coffee after the ordeal was over.
