A special weather statement has ended for Toronto, but winter weather conditions will likely continue as local blowing snow is expected overnight.

Environment Canada issued the statement earlier on Thursday, as an “Alberta clipper” storm system passed over Ontario. It was lifted shortly after 9:45 p.m.

The national weather agency says approximately five centimetres of snow blanketed the city.

As the temperatures continue to drop Thursday night, Environment Canada says local blowing snow is expected overnight as winds gusting up to 50 kilometres/hour are expected. The mercury is expected to drop to a low -9 C Thursday night.

As of 10 p.m., Environment Canada says it was -1 C, but with the wind chill if felt more like – 8 C.
