A Toronto driver was forced to crawl out the window of his Jaguar when the car was swallowed by a large sinkhole in a west-end parking lot Wednesday morning.

The sinkhole appeared in a parking lot on the southwest corner of Industry Street and Todd Baylis Boulevard, in the Black Creek Drive and Eglinton Avenue West area.

Police and city crews were called to the scene, where they found a car stuck in the sinkhole. Only the roof and the top half of the windows could be seen.

Photos showed the sinkhole is approximately two metres longer and wider than the car. The hole was filled with muddy water.

The owner of the sunken Jaguar, Mario, was pulling into the parking lot outside of his workplace when the car got stuck at approximately 7 a.m.

Mario said he saw that a section of the parking lot was full of water and sand, and drove over to see what was happening. As he drove into the parking lot, his car went straight down into the sinkhole.

"I couldn't get the door open so I rolled down the window halfway and just (crawled) out through the window."

The area has been blocked off by police tape as crews investigate the cause of the hole. The car was removed shortly after 10 a.m.
