The body of a Stoufville, Ont. mother was pulled out of a fiery home in Stoufville Sunday but police say they are investigating the circumstances around her death.

Marion Deacon, a 46-year-old mother of three, was found without vital signs Sunday morning by fire rescue crews who battled the blaze on Doner Road. She was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Deacon's best friend Linda Sider happens to live next door. Sider told CTV Toronto that the woman's boyfriend knocked on her door for help at around 8 a.m.

"He said the house was on fire and he couldn't find Marion so I ran out," she said. "We ran over and tried to kick the door in but it was double bolted."

In the meantime, Sider's husband Jeff Veinot called 911 after speaking with Deacon's boyfriend.

"He was shocked I think and he was cold and he took some smoke on too," he said about the man. "He wasn't himself…kind of scattered."

Deacon's boyfriend was taken to York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill where he was treated for smoke inhalation. Police say they will be questioning him.

"We just need to speak with that individual and find out exactly what transpired at that home in terms of the fire and in terms of anything else that went on," said York Regional Police Insp. Chris Bullen.

Police won't say if they are treating the case as a suspicious incident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to help authorities determine what killed Deacon.
