Users of York Region's Viva transit service may need another ride on Monday if a contract dispute isn't resolved this weekend.

Veolia Transportation Inc. operates the Viva rapid transit service for the region. Its contract talks with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 11 broke down earlier this week.

A strike could come as soon as 12:01 a.m. on Monday.

"In the event of a strike, service on all Viva routes will be discontinued," the Regional Municipality of York said in a news release issued Friday.

"Residents are advised to use the York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva website and Customer Service Centre to stay informed about this situation and plan ahead."

Other YRT services will be operating on Monday.

Viva provides five bus rapid transit roots and links into TTC stations at Don Mills, Finch and Downsview.

If a strike does occur, YRT and Viva Transit inspectors will be available to help customers. There will be additional staff on duty at the customer service centre, which can be reached at  1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978).
