TORONTO - A family the Federal Court ruled was wrongfully deported to Albania is to return to Canada Thursday.

The Tabaj family is to be reunited with supporters at Toronto's Pearson International Airport this afternoon after stops in Greece and Italy.

In June 2009, Arjan Tabaj, his wife Anilda, a daughter and twin sons were deported and have spent the last two years in hiding fearing for their safety.

A Liberal Party release says Tabaj is a partially paralysed survivor of an assassination attempt during elections in Albania.

The court ruling compelled the government to issue temporary resident permits and visas to facilitate the Tabaj family's immediate return to safety in Canada.
