A 44-year-old woman is on life support after a two-alarm fire erupted at a Scarborough bungalow overnight.

The blaze broke out in the basement of a home on Brimorton Drive, near Markham Road, at about 3:30 a.m.

After firefighters put out the fire, they found the woman without vital signs, the Toronto Star reported.

Firefighters were able to resuscitate her, and paramedics took the victim to Scarborough General Hospital.

The owner of the home escaped the fire. It was her daughter who was caught in the fire, fire officials told the newspaper.

Another adult who was visiting the home was reportedly treated for minor smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
