Two children escaped serious harm after being struck by vehicles in separate incidents in the city's east end on Friday.

Eleven-year-old Hamza Khan was struck by a blue Honda and pinned beneath a van while standing outside his home on Trudelle Street, north of Eglinton Avenue, over the noon hour.

The out-of-control vehicle continued on, smashing into a parked van and a house, causing extensive damage, Toronto police said.

Khan was taken to Sick Kids hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"He was pinned underneath the van and my mom had to pull him out," said Khan's older brother Hunain. "She took him to the hospital. They had to give him a couple of stitches."

Investigators say the driver of the vehicle suffered a medication condition. He was also taken to hospital and was expected to be released over the weekend.

Earlier in the day, a child was struck while at a crosswalk at Kingston Road and Manderley Drive, east of Warden Avenue, at about 8:20 a.m.

Investigators say the child was crossing at the crosswalk and the overhead lights were activated when a vehicle in the passing lane struck him.

The driver tried to stop but wasn't able to do so, police said. The child was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released a short time later.

The driver has been charged with failing to yield at a pedestrian crossover.

Traffic Services is asking for the public's help in both investigations. Witnesses are asked to call 416-808-1900.
