A 23-year-old Toronto woman has died after falling off a raft at Wasaga Beach over the weekend.

Emergency responders were called to Nottawasaga Bay at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Sunday. Police say two women were on a raft that was located between 75 metres to 100 metres from the shore. It’s possible a breeze pushed the raft further than the woman had intended, police say.

According to investigators, one of the women was able to surface the water but the other did not.

An extensive water search was launched. Yelizaveta Pavlyshyn was found in approximately two metres of water. She was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say foul play is not suspected.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
