Toronto car crash leaves woman dead, another seriously injured

A 22-year-old woman was killed and a 20-year-old man was seriously injured in a car crash in Etobicoke Saturday night.

The collision occurred on The Queensway, east of High Street, around 8:15 p.m.

Toronto police said the woman driving an Acura TL sedan westbound on The Queensway lost control and struck two poles. The vehicle split in half as a result.

The woman had to be rescued by emergency crews after becoming trapped in the vehicle, police said.

Toronto paramedics rushed the woman to a trauma centre, where she later died from her injuries.

The man, a passenger in the vehicle, was also transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The car wreck scattered debris across the road.
