Toronto remains under a special weather statement with the city expected to get hit with as much as five centimetres of snow on Saturday, changing to a risk of freezing rain this evening, Environment Canada says.
A low pressure system from south of the border is approaching Southern Ontario, creating snowy and wet conditions, the national weather agency said in a statement on Saturday. And while many areas in and around the GTA will see temperatures rise to above the freezing mark, Environment Canada says rain could still pose problems as ground temperatures may still be below freezing, potentially creating icy patches on roads and sidewalks. The expected low in Toronto on Saturday is -3 C.
The rain expected in the evening will change back to periods of snow after midnight.
Areas north of the city, stretching from Lake Huron toward eastern Ontario, are expected to as much as 15 centimetres of snow by the end of Saturday.
Toronto's Pearson International Airport said on Saturday that flight delays are possible, and is advising all passengers to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
