Hey, at least the deep freeze is over.
With the temperature hovering near the freezing mark, a low-pressure system is expected to bring messy weather conditions to southern Ontario this weekend.
In a special weather statement, Environment Canada said there is uncertainty about the exact path of the system, but the latest indications suggest areas south of a line from Goderich to Kingston will see snow changing to rain, with a risk of freezing rain.
North of that line, the precipitation will be mostly or all snow.
In Toronto, the snow is expected to arrive in the morning and change to rain before changing back to snow at night. The system could dump up to 10 centimetres of snow in the GTA before it moves out Sunday.
There is a risk of freezing rain in the afternoon, when the temperature is expected to hit 1 C.
North of Toronto, snowfall amounts could be 15 cm.
State of emergency in Dufferin County
The storm comes at a bad time for Dufferin County, where a state of emergency is still in effect for the third day.
All schools remained closed Friday.
The county was battered by strong winds and snow this week, making many roads impassable due to huge snow drifts. Some roads are still closed.
Several crashes occurred in whiteout conditions and people were encouraged to stay off the roads.
The state of emergency was issued Wednesday, as the county struggled to keep up with the weather and its employees were "completely tapped" after working non-stop to clear snow off the roads.
