A Toronto-area homemaker picked up an unexpected holiday gift on Monday – a cheque for $50 million from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

Susan Flam from Thornhill, Ont. is the winner of the Lotto Max jackpot prize from the Dec. 21 draw.

Speaking to reporters at the OLG prize centre in Toronto, Flam said she’s still in shock and will take some time to think about her first big purchase.

Flam, who picked up the cheque with her husband, said she will use the money to help her family and make donations to good causes.

Flam has two grown children and five grandchildren.

She said she checked her Lotto Max ticket on Saturday while shopping for groceries with her husband.

At first, she thought she had won $50,000, but her husband told her to check the winning numbers again. She then realized she’d won $50 million.

Flam purchased her winning ticket at the Fairview Mall in Toronto.
