A 16-year-old girl has been airlifted to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries after crashing into a tree at Blue Mountain Resort Tuesday afternoon.

The girl, who has not been identified, was competing in the Gooch Cup, a competition hosted by the Toronto Ski Club.

The teen was wearing a helmet but was not competing at the time of the crash.

Officials told CTV Toronto that she was skiing on the Schuss run, an intermediate course surrounded by black and double-black diamond hills, when she hit a tree shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Organizers of the race say the teen is a part of the Milton Heights Ski Club. She was rushed to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, before being airlifted to Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital.

Blue Mountain is located northwest of Collingwood, Ont. A spokesperson for the resort, Tara Lovell, says some runs have been closed and Ontario Provincial Police are on scene.

"This investigation is ongoing to not only determine the cause of the collision but also what the actual details of what took place," Const. Martin Hachey told CTV Toronto on Tuesday.

Investigators say they are hoping to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash. It's believed six people saw the collision.
