A man has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle fires set in the city's north end.

Toronto police said the suspect was arrested early Sunday in the area near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue.

The arrest comes after two cars were set on fire early Sunday, following other vehicle fires earlier in the month. Police said the 30-year-old suspect lives in the neighbourhood.

On Sunday, firefighters said they received a call about a car fire just before 2 a.m. Three fire trucks and 16 firefighters responded to the vehicle fire, which caused about $15,000 in damage before being contained, Toronto Fire Services said.

A second call Sunday night alerted firefighters to a fire on Calais Avenue. Three trucks and 14 firefighters responded.

At 3:20 a.m., a third call reported a bush fire just blocks away from the two car fires. The Toronto Fire Services said all three fires Sunday morning were suspected arsons.

Earlier in August, several other vehicles had also been set on fire. A police release from Aug. 10 said some of those cars were set on fire while parked in home driveways.

Police say witness descriptions helped catch the suspect.
