Streetcar service has resumed at a major downtown intersection that had been closed since a garbage truck took down some overhead wires on Tuesday morning.

The TTC says that regular service has now resumed on the 504 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcar routes following the completion of “extensive repairs” at the intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue.

The TTC says that the intersection will remain closed to motor vehicles until city crews are able to de-ice the roadway.

Service all remains suspended on the 510 Spadina route, which utilizes buses.

“After working day and night for the past three days, TTC crews have completed extensive repairs at the intersection of King St. and Spadina Ave., which means it can reopen for streetcar service,” interim TTC CEO Greg Percy said in a statement on Friday morning. “I want to thank everyone for their tireless efforts to complete this work quickly and safely. I also want to thank our customers for their patience during the closure.”

In his statement, Percy said that King and Spadina is a “complex” intersection due to the presence of “multiple intertwining cables and connectors supported by multiple poles.”

Her said that all of that equipment has to be inspected first, before crews could restring the downed wires and restore power to the streetcar tracks.

“I want to recognize everyone’s hard work and dedication to getting this done,” he said.

King Street remains closed to vehicles in both directions between Brant and Charlotte streets while Spadina Avenue is closed to vehicles from Front to Adelaide streets.

A timeline has not been provided for when the roadway will be fully reopened to traffic.
