A snowstorm that blew through Toronto is lingering north of the city, leading to reduced visibility and snow squalls in open areas.

Environment Canada issued several snow squall warnings on Wednesday morning, predicting accumulation of 10 centimetres by the end of the day.

The warnings are in effect for areas southeast of Georgian Bay, where snow is blowing in off the lake.

Drivers are warned that the snow and wind gusts may reduce visibility in the affected area.

"Visibility will suddenly be reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow," the warnings said.

"Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities."

The following areas fall under the warnings:

  • Saugeen Shores-Kincardine-Southern Bruce County
  • Hanover-Dundalk-Southern Grey County

Snow squall watches are in place in:

  • Simcoe-Delhi-Norfolk
  • Dunnville-Caledonia-Haldimand
  • Niagara Falls-Welland-Southern Niagara Region
  • Parry Sound-Muskoka
  • Belleville-Quinte-Northumberland
  • Kingston-Prince Edward
  • Brockville-Leeds and Grenville
