Motorists in the Greater Toronto Area are being told to brace for a messy commute Friday as a mix of precipitation across the region could provide a sloppy ride.

A low pressure system over Ohio is tracking northeast across the Great Lakes bringing with it snow and ice pellets before changing to freezing rain by the morning commute. Some areas could see rain alone.

"Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for dangerous travelling conditions," Environment Canada suggested in a weather warning. "Untreated surfaces will become ice covered and very slippery."

The weather agency recommended that residents consult public forecasts for the timing and precipitation types in specific areas.

Overall, Environment Canada expects for Friday periods of rain ending in the morning then cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries. Temperatures are seen steady near 3C. While on Saturday periods of snow are expected with a high of 1C.
