Several Pusateri's Fine Foods grocery stores closing amid bankruptcy proceedings

Pusateri's Fine Foods is consolidating all of its operations down to its flagship grocery store, while the remaining branches commence bankruptcy proceedings that will shutter their doors permanently.

On Tuesday, the high-end Toronto grocer filed assignments in bankruptcy for its Bayview Village, Yorkville, Little Italy, and Kitchen locations, the latter being the warehouse and kitchen that supplied in-house branded products to other branches. It is unclear at this time what will happen with the employees who work at the impacted locations.

A spokesperson for Pusateri's confirmed to CTV News Toronto that the affected locations have permanently ceased operations.

"It's important to note, Pusateri's Avenue Road will not be negatively impacted by this restructuring. On the contrary, these steps are being taken to strengthen and ensure the long term success of this location allowing for a clearer focus on providing a winner customer experience of exceptional quality products and service," Paolo Pusateri, head of marketing for the grocer, said in an emailed statement.

Albert Gelman Inc. has been appointed the insolvency trustee.

The Pusateri's store inside the Saks Food Hall at the Toronto Eaton Centre will also remain open.

"Through these difficult changes, we strongly believe that the long-term sustainability of the company can be secured," Pusateri said. "To that end, we are deeply impacted by these changes, and we understand this is disappointing news for our customers and community."
