A woman in her 90s is dead and an elderly man is in hospital with injuries after two separate pedestrian collisions in the Greater Toronto Area Monday.

The woman was struck by a city bus in the community of Meadowvale in Mississauga Monday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police shut down a block of Aquitane Avenue, near Winston Churchill Boulevard, for several hours while they conducted their investigation.

Police said of the 15 to 20 passengers on the bus, only four stayed behind to speak with them. Police are asking other witnesses to call 905-453-2121, extension 3710.

Meanwhile, in north Scarborough, police are asking witnesses for help after an elderly man was hit as he was crossing a busy street just before 8:30 a.m.

The man is in hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the man was struck by a car as he tried to cross McNicoll Avenue from the north to south side near Warden Avenue.

The car was making a left-hand turn from La Peer Boulevard onto the westbound lanes of McNicoll.

There are no traffic signals at the intersection.
