About 1,700 gas grills sold exclusively through Lowes home improvement stores are being recalled, part of a recall of another 663,000 in the United States.

The burners of the Perfect Flame SLG series can deteriorate, causing irregular flames. Forty such incidents were reported. The lids on some models can catch fire, posing a fire and burn hazard. There were 23 reports of burning lids.

In the U.S., an eye injury required surgery. There were 21 other reported incidents of minor burns to the hands, arms or face.

The grills are made in China by Lucas Innovation Inc. and imported by L G Sourcing Inc.

Lowes sold them in Canada from December 2007 until this past May. They were sold in the U.S. from September 2005 to this past May.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact L G Sourcing to receive free replacement burners and, depending on the model of the grill owned, a free replacement lid," Lowes said on its website.

To receive free replacement parts, consumers can call L G Sourcing at 1-888-840-9590.
