Toronto police have released security camera footage and images of two suspects wanted in connection with the shooting death of a young man.

John Kang, 21, was shot in the chest shortly after 10 p.m. on May 26 in Toronto's east end. He was pronounced dead at Sunnybrook Hospital.

"We're appealing to the public, even if they don't know the suspects they may have some information," Det. Scott Whittemore said at a press conference on Thursday.

He said someone may have some information that he or she may think is unimportant, but it may be "quite significant" to police.

The video shows two suspects approaching Kang and a friend in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant near Victoria Park and Finch Avenues.

Police said the suspects removed handguns from their waistbands and demanded money, which Kang refused.

Police are not releasing information on whether anything was stolen from the victim or the friend.

The first suspect is described as a black male between 18 and 19 years of age, 5-foot-4 in height, about 121 lbs., with a light complexion, short hair and a narrow nose and chin. He was wearing a light-coloured baseball cap, a red and black jacket, a vest with grey pockets and skinny jeans.

The second suspect is also described as a black male between 18 and 19 years of age. He is about six-feet-tall, with a skinny build, dark complexion and a small nose.

He was wearing black jeans, a black sweater and a black baseball cap – possibly with an Atlanta Hawks logo on the front.

"It is hoped that the clothing worn by the suspects along with their mannerisms may help the public in identifying the two murderers," Whittemore said.

The men are considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Kang had recently been arrested by York Regional Police for driving under the influence and drug possession, but police said they do not think the victim's past played a role in his death.
