Police have released the identity of a 17-year-old fatally shot in North York over the weekend.

Before noon on Saturday, Caheem 'Clayshawn' Ramsuchit was going to visit a friend at a community housing complex near Jane Street and Shoreham Drive, police said.

Ramsuchit was shot multiple times by suspects who were positioned over a fence outside the home, Toronto police Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone said on Saturday.

Carbone said he believes the shooting was targeted.

Ramsuchit’s last name was initially reported as Monteith, after his uncle Orlando Monteith identified the 17-year-old as his nephew.

An autopsy performed on Sunday concluded Ramsuchit died from a gunshot wound to his torso, according to police.

Investigators have yet to released detailed descriptions of the suspects, however, witnesses at the scene said two individuals were seen fleeing the area in a dark-coloured SUV.

Police continue to look at surveillance camera footage of the area. The footage will eventually be released, they said.

Ramsuchit was not previously known to police.
