A Northwest Airlines regional jet carrying 45 passengers encountered a mechanical problem before landing at Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Thursday afternoon

Emergency crews stood by waiting for the aircraft, which landed safely just before 1:30 p.m.

Everyone on board was fine, said Greater Toronto Airports Authority spokeswoman Trish Krale.

The plane came from Minneapolis, Minn., and was destined for Toronto.

The GTAA couldn't immediately confirm when officials noticed the problem.
