Road crews worked through the night to replace some of the peeling stickers marking temporary high-occupancy vehicle lanes in the Toronto area.

The lanes are being set up on some of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area's busiest highways, aimed at easing traffic congestion during the Pan Am Games. The high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are meant to help athletes and officials get to and from events, while also encouraging carpooling.

Ahead of the HOV lanes taking effect at the end of June, the Ministry of Transportation began marking the roadways with signs and road stickers last week. Soon after, the ministry said staff noticed "disintegration" of the white diamond markings on the lanes on the Queen Elizabeth Way, Gardiner Expressway and Highway 427.

On Monday, the ministry said replacement would be weather permitting, and would be completed at the contractor's expense. By Wednesday, it could be seen from the CTV News chopper that some of the diamonds had been replaced.

Patrick Searle, the press secretary for the Minister of Transportation, said some markings were replaced overnight, and the other peeling stickers would be replaced within a few days.
