CLARINGTON, Ont. -- Durham police say putting up Christmas lights has landed a 24-year-old Oshawa man in critical condition in a Toronto trauma hospital.

Police say the man suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday when he fell from the roof of a home in Clarington he'd been contracted to decorate.

Investigators say he lost his balance while on the rooftop and fell onto the ground below, where he was noticed by a passerby who called 911.

Paramedics transported the man to hospital where he was diagnosed with brain and spinal injuries.

Police are using the incident to warn the public of the safety concerns involved in festive decorating both indoors and outdoors.
