The body of a third missing snowmobiler was found by Ontario Provincial Police Sunday, a day after finding the bodies of two others who went missing after a late-night snowmobile ride on the Lake of Bays.

Police said the three victims left a rural location near Huntsville for a trip to nearby Baysville late Friday night where two of them hopped on one craft while a third went out on his own.

They never returned home.

"We received information that somebody had seen tracks out onto the lake and there was open water at the end of where the tracks were found,'' Const. Paul Higham told The Canadian Press in a phone interview.

Police spent all day Saturday searching the area for the missing snowmobilers but only found two bodies and floating clothing.

Police divers suspended their search for the third person until Sunday because of poor weather and poor lighting.

The victims have been identified as 37-year-old Norman MacDonald, 20-year-old Derek Jenereux and 24-year-old Leslie Newman.

Tragic weekend

The OPP are also investigating a separate incident Friday where an 80-year-old man went missing during an ice fishing excursion.

The man went out early Friday evening in the Twilight Bay area of Lake Nipissing. Rescuers later found a snowmobile helmet, believed to belong to the victim, floating in the water.

The missing senior is presumed dead.

Also on Friday night, a motorist suffered life-threatening injuries after the snowmobile he was operating crashed in the middle of Rib Lake.

An air ambulance was headed to the accident scene when it also crashed, injuring the four people aboard.

The craft went down at the helicopter pad at Snake Lake near Temagami, about an hour north of North Bay.

At least two of the people aboard the helicopter had serious injuries, said Sgt. Todd Proulx.

Police said snowmobilers should always be aware of ice conditions and check the trail before venturing out.
