ORILLIA, Ont. - Provincial police cruisers across Ontario are getting some new equipment -- teddy bears.

Cruisers will carry plush black and white teddy bears for officers to hand out to children who have experienced trauma.

Police say situations such as car crashes, personal injuries, domestic violence and abuse have a profound effect on children.

It's hoped the new Community Bear can help ease the pain and trauma those kids experience.

The province-wide Community Bear program was launched today as part of Ontario Police Week.

Police say the program is being sponsored by Aviva Canada Inc., which is selling additional bears to raise funds for the OPP Youth Foundation.
