The last day of the last long weekend of the summer is typically one of the busiest on GTA highways, and it's also true for police.

The Ontario Provincial Police say there has been a 30 per cent reduction in road fatalities in the last year but people continue to driving unsafe.

Sgt. Cam Woolley says a street racing charge was laid every 25 minutes since the weekend began.

That's 168 charges in 72 hours, said Woolley.

Officers are also stationed on Highway 400, on the lookout for people coming back from closing up their cottages. They're having a look at how people have packed up items and are conducting safety inspections.

Woolley said they've arrested a drunk-driver who was heading home from his own wedding as well as people still not buckling up, including two small children.

"Still people are not getting it with seatbelts, even unbuckled kids," he said. "A car going 168 km/h two little kids in it."

The OPP will remain in force in the air and highway, conducting the traffic blitz until the Labour Day weekend rush is over.
