Two women and a man will be sentenced next month after being found guilty of charges under the provincial Day Nurseries Act.

Ruslan Panfilova, wife Olena Panfilova and daughter Karyna Rabadanova were found to have operated illegal daycares out of three neighbouring homes in Vaughan.

The family will appear in court again on March 18 to be sentenced for operation of a nursery without a licence.

The investigation into the daycares was launched after police were called to a daycare at 343 Yellowood Cir., in the area of Highway 7 and Dufferin Street, on July 8, 2013.

Officers were called to the daycare, operating inside a home, when it was reported that a two-year-old was found not breathing. Paramedics attempted to revive Eva Ravikovich, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two days after the girl's death, CTV News learned that the daycare had a prior complaint against it, and had been found with too many children in its care.

The Ministry of Education was called to investigate whether the home-based facility was meeting legislative requirements.

In the course of the months-long trial, the court heard from several witnesses including police officers who were involved in the investigation.

One officer described the second floor of the home as being so hot that he was sweating. He said the younger children were "screaming and crying, very hot to touch."

Another said he was overwhelmed by the number of children in a small space. Police also said there were also more than a dozen dogs in the daycare the day that the toddler died.

Olena Pafilova and Rabadanova have also been charged with obstructing a police investigation and destroying evidence in connection with the toddler's death. They have yet to stand trial for those charges.
