TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty says Ontario is looking at joining forces with the southern states to fight climate change.

McGuinty says Ontario is interested in joining several American climate change partnerships which include California, New Mexico and Arizona.

McGuinty says in a statement that it makes sense for Ontario to work with its southern neighbours to reduce greenhouse gases.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says in the same statement that he welcomes Ontario's interest.

He says the science is clear and political leaders everywhere have to work together to combat global warming.

New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer adds global warming doesn't recognize international boundaries and he would welcome the chance to work with Ontario to fight climate change.
