TORONTO - Durham region will be getting $510,000 to tackle guns and gangs, says a spokeswoman for the minister of community safety and correctional services.

Annette Phillips says Monte Kwinter will make the funding announcement outside the Ajax-Pickering community police office Monday.

The announcement comes just over a month after the Ontario government committed $6.3-million to the expansion of an anti-guns and gangs program for cities outside the Toronto area.

The announcement is also expected to outline police guns and gangs initiatives in the region.

Over the coming weeks, Phillips says Kwinter will be making similar funding announcements at municipalities across Ontario.
