ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Fire officials in St. Catharines say a man was severely burned Wednesday when he tried to light a cigarette on his kitchen stove.
Fire Chief Mark Mehlenbacher says the man was trying to light up using one of the burners on the stove.
He says a flash fire ignited some papers that were sitting next to the stove.
There's no immediate word on the man's condition.
The fire chief says people should keep combustible material out of the kitchen, and adds he wouldn't recommend lighting a cigarette on a stovetop.
