SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- Police in southern New Brunswick have arrested a man wanted for attempted murder after a shooting last week in Ontario.

The Saint John Police Force says the suspect was arrested by a heavily armed tactical team without incident at a residence in the city's south end.

Sgt. Jay Henderson issued a statement saying Sirvon Edwards was arrested Monday just after 4 p.m. at a residence on Mecklenburg Street.

On the weekend, the police force issued a warning to residents, saying the 31-year-old was considered armed and dangerous.

The York Regional Police had sought the man after a shooting near a pub in Markham, Ont., last Thursday injured a 22-year-old man.
