A motorcyclist has been charged after being clocked at more than 117 km/h over the posted speed limit in Richmond Hill on Sunday night.

The blue Yamaha motorcycle was travelling on Hwy. 7 near Hunters Point Drive in Richmond Hill shortly before 10:30 p.m. when an officer clocked it at 197 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, York Regional Police said.

The officer -- who was monitoring speed in the area at the time -- alerted other officers about the vehicle which was ultimately pulled over nearby.

A 21-year-old man from Vaughan was charged with dangerous driving, stunt driving and speeding.

The driver’s license was suspended and the motorcycle has been impounded for seven days.
