6 people dead, including suspect, after shooting in Vaughan, Ont.
Six people are dead, including the suspect, after a gunman opened fire inside a condo tower in Vaughan, just north of Toronto, Sunday night.
York Regional Police (YRP) said the mass shooting happened in a condominium in the area of Jane Street and Rutherford Road.
Police said officers arrived to find a number of victims fatally shot. The suspect was shot following an interaction with officers and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"An interaction occurred between the suspect and our officers and the suspect is now deceased,” said YRP duty inspector Const. Laura Nicolle at the scene.
Another victim was taken to hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive police said.
Nicolle said the investigation is in its early stages and officers are still working their way through the condo building in search of other victims who may have been injured in the shooting.
Nicolle said the SIU had been notified in regards to the fatal interaction between the suspect and YRP officers.
