A 57-year-old Brampton man is facing several charges over an allegation that he had sex with a Halton teenager he met through an online dating service.

In a news release issued Wednesday, Halton Regional Police said the two met in October 2008 and "subsequently engaged in sexual activity over a period of time.

"The victim was determined to be 13 years of age at the time the sexual activity took place," it said.

Mike Chaddock will appear in Milton court on June 1 to answer to the following charges:

  • sexual assault
  • sexual interference
  • invitation to sexual touching

Halton police warn parents they should watch their children for the following behaviours:

  • long hours spent on the computer
  • secretive about online activities
  • behavioural changes
  • spending excessive time in Internet chat rooms
  • unexplained telephone or cell phone use
  • unexplained photographs on the computer

"If you see any of these behaviours, speak with your child as it may be a sign they are at risk and need your help," police said.
