A man who was wanted for allegedly assaulting and abducting a woman in Mississauga earlier this week has been arrested, and the woman has been found safe, police say.

The incident happened on Tuesday near Mississauga Road and Meadowvale Boulevard.

Peel Regional Police said a man was allegedly seen striking a woman and forcing her into a black Acura SUV at around 11:45 a.m.

Investigators said the suspect then drove away in the vehicle. They said that officers tried stopping it, however the driver refused to pull over.

News of the arrest comes one day after police publicly identified a suspect in the case and made an appeal for information.

Bryan Devereaux, 48, of Kitchener, was arrested on Thursday.

Police have not said what charges he may be facing.

The relationship between the suspect and the victim is “unclear” at this point, Const. Tyler Bell-Morna previously told CP24.

Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
