York Police have charged a Gravenhurst man with second-degree murder in connection with a woman found dead this weekend in a burning Whitchurch-Stouffville home.
On Sunday morning, emergency services personnel responded to a fire at 6 Doner St. That location is about a half-kilometre east of Highway 404 and just south of Stouffville Road.
Once there, they found a male visitor conscious outside the residence. Paramedics took him to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Firefighters found a 46-year-old woman inside the home without vital signs.
They had her transported to hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead.
The woman has been identified as Whitchurch-Stouffville resident Marion Deacon.
"A post-mortem examination conducted on Monday, March 8 … determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries to the head," York Police said Tuesday in a news release.
Police say they have charged her boyfriend Paul Kenyon, 43, with second-degree murder. He is still in hospital and is expected to remain there for several more days.
