A devastating crash near Georgetown has sent four people to hospital.

Two air ambulances were dispatched to the scene Monday, which is located at Highway 7 and the 22nd sideroad.

Two victims were sent to Sunnybrook and St. Michael's hospitals in Toronto, which have specialized trauma units. One person went to a local hospital, and a fourth was taken to a Hamilton hospital.

The accident occurred on a sunny day and dry pavement.

Police say a westbound Honda Civic left the roadway for unknown reasons then overcorrected back across all four lanes, hitting an eastbound vehicle at an angle.

The Civic's driver is described as being critically injured while his female passenger is in life-threatening condition. The driver of the eastbound vehicl has life-threatening injuries, with a passenger sustaining critical injuries.

Police say the roadway will remain closed well into the evening.
