A man has been charged with impaired driving causing death following an early-morning crash on Highway 403 that killed a young woman.

A minivan carrying three people was travelling west when it struck the median near Mavis Road in Mississauga and slid into the ditch at about 1:30 a.m., said Ontario Provincial Police Const. Graham Williamson.

A female passenger, 21-year-old Toronto resident, was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the two other occupants suffered minor injuries.

The driver, a 28-year-old from Minden, Ont., has been charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

The accident closed a portion of the highway's westbound lanes for several hours.
