All eastbound Highway 401 express lanes have reopened after being closed several hours due to a collision.

A tractor-trailer collided with three Ministry of Transportation trucks at Neilson Road shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, as workers were clearing the scene of an earlier collision

Ontario Provincial Police said the workers were cleaning up a diesel spill from a two-vehicle crash that happened at 10 p.m. on Thursday.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the transport truck struck an MTO truck that was blocking the section of the road, clipped a tow truck and then hit a service truck before catching fire.

The driver of the transport truck and one MTO worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and both are recovering in hospital.

Traffic was routed off Highway 401 at Morningside Avenue for hours as MTO staff cleaned up the debris. The express lanes reopened shortly before 1 p.m.
