GO train commuters were temporarily delayed at the start of evening rush hour after a GO train and an SUV collided on the tracks.

The collision occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday, just east of the Agincourt GO Station. It is not yet known what caused the crash, but no one was seriously injured.

"The train didn't suffer that much damage," Metrolinx spokesperson Anne-Marie Aikins told reporters.

"It just clipped the front of the vehicle, which then spun around."

Video from the scene showed that the back, driver's side of the SUV received the most damage. Part of the trunk was damaged and the back windshield was smashed.

GO Transit service resumed on the Stouffville line with the 5:18 p.m. train out of Union Station.

While service was suspended, those affected by the crash were advised to use their GO tickets or PRESTO cards to access nearby subway stations.

Passengers travelling to Unionville and other north stops were told to use the Richmond Hill GO train line to get to Langstaff Station, then get on awaiting buses.

GO also warned Richmond Hill passengers of a risk of crowding.

"You may find that your train is a bit more crowded than normal today as these passengers may choose to use your service. Please be patient and aware at platform level as you board your train. We thank you for your understanding as we work to get everyone home safely."
