Toronto motorists will experience another leap in gas prices, as analysts predict they will climb to $1.41 per litre overnight on Tuesday.

The 1.5 cent jump comes after drivers already saw a historic rise at the pumps as prices leapt 6.5 cents overnight on Monday.

The rise has prompted Torontogasprices.com to call it the highest price in the city's history.

Motorists paid an average of 98.4 cents per litre one year ago.

Dan McTeague from TomorrowsgasPrices.com said the prices don't reflect the cost of crude oil because a barrel of oil traded for $98.4 on Tuesday. Instead he said that refineries are able to add large profit margins because they hold a monopoly in the market.

He said the price doesn't reflect supply and demand and that the government should get on board to curve the regulation of prices.

Another website, GasBuddy.com says that Ontario was the worst hit by the rise in gas prices.

The website maintains that the increases are much more moderate elsewhere, even going down in some places.

For example, Montreal's gas prices dropped from an average of 1.65 cents per litre to 1.37, while prices in Vancouver were down 0.4 cents a litre at 1.37.

Our website toronto.ctv.ca/gas lists the Pioneer at 2317 St. Clair Ave W. and Cobalt Avenue and the Cango at 2580 St. Clair Ave W. and Mariposa Avenue as the cheapest in Toronto, where prices are currently at 129.9 cents per litre.
