TORONTO - Ontario's chief coroner has found no evidence to support allegations of abuse or neglect in the deaths of four residents of a Toronto retirement home.

Dr. Andrew McCallum today released the results of investigations into last year's deaths of residents of the In Touch Retirement Home.

The deaths of three residents were reported to his office last November amid allegations of abuse and neglect by retirement home staff.

The causes of death were determined to be natural disease processes while the fourth subsequent death was deemed accidental due to choking.

McCallum's report says some issues identified about retirement homes in general have been addressed by legislation passed by the government.

They include the need for a complaint mechanism and a requirement for reassessment of residents' needs.

The report says no further action, including a coroner's inquest, is needed at this time.
