A fraud at Seneca College totalling more than $200,000 has led to the arrest of a staff member.

Police said they started an investigation on April 15, after a complaint from the college about a series of frauds allegedly committed by one of its staff members at the Markham campus.

The suspect, who worked as a facilities manager according to police, is being accused of creating false invoices using fake company names. Police said the invoices were then handed to Seneca College for payment.

It is alleged that questionable invoicing began in April 2013.

In total, police said the college had paid approximately $216,000.

On Thursday, a 36-year-old man from Pickering was charged with fraud and forgery. He will appear in a court in Newmarket on June 9.
